Biography of Johanna Levy

Born in Lorraine, since my childhood I have always drawn portraits.
After reading books to broaden my culture, I deepened the charcoal drawing by focusing on the portrait and the nude. I then approached oil painting, through the study of the masters (Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Picasso ...). I then embarked on a more personal work.
The face is not what is seen, but rather what is hidden. I try to decipher them, to tell them and to reinvent them.
My subjects emerge from a segmented universe that I place on my paintings.
Recently, fascinated by the stratigraphic spatula, I was lucky and honored to have met the creator of this technique: the international art master Mario Salvo. A reciprocal friendship was established allowing me to learn this extremely difficult technique.
With his help and learning, a new story was created: the abstract.
Life, hope, freedom, love and happiness are the fights I fight every day.
My illness has become an inexhaustible source of inspiration for me. I play with the spatula and the acrylic.
I slide the spatula to bring out texture and colors. I thus create nuances and rich gradations thus favoring the bursting of the colors. The chromatic palette used is both rich and diverse.
The vibration of the colors between them animates each of my works and brings me into a universe that is both abstract and fragmented. I rarely know the final form that a painting will take.
It’s that part of Johanna Levy.
